Scheduling
How does ControlBoard® show what each job still needs on the schedule?
In ControlBoard a need is work a job is waiting on, such as two electricians for a week. Needs sit on the schedule
boards beside the people and equipment already scheduled, so a dispatcher sees at a glance what is still open. An open
need is outlined and a filled one is solid with a check. Your company chooses whether needs are coloured by open and
filled, or by the kind of work. Each family of resource can measure needs in hours of coverage or in a quantity, so
labor, equipment and material are each planned the way they are ordered.

Common questions
What is a need in ControlBoard?
A need is one thing a job has to have and does not yet, such as so many people of a trade for a window of days. It
waits on the job until someone is scheduled against it. Filling needs is how the schedule closes the gap between
the work planned and the labor and equipment available.
Can needs be measured in hours or in quantity?
Yes. Each family, such as labor or equipment, has a default: hours of coverage over time, or a quantity per day or
in total. A new need starts from its family’s default and can still be changed, so each need is planned in the
unit that fits the work.
Can I change the colours of needs on the board?
Yes. Colour needs by open and filled to see what is still uncovered, or by the resource type’s own colour to see
what kind of work each need is. Either way an open need is outlined and a filled one is solid, so the difference
stays clear.
