Job cost
How does ControlBoard® manage the cost codes we track jobs against?
ControlBoard keeps your cost codes, the accounting codes hours, budgets and costs are tracked against, in one list the
whole company shares. Codes can roll up under a parent for reporting. A company with subsidiaries can let each one add
its own codes under the company’s, so local detail still adds into the company’s reports and no number is used twice.
Codes are retired instead of deleted while they are in use, which keeps job history intact. The list loads and updates
from a spreadsheet, so a code list from accounting goes in without retyping.
What you can do with it

Common questions
Can subsidiaries keep their own cost codes?
Yes, when the company allows it. A subsidiary’s code sits under one of the company’s codes and adds into it on
reports. A code number is used once, so a subsidiary cannot repeat a company code, and only a whole-company
administrator changes the company list.
Can we import our cost codes from a spreadsheet?
Yes. ControlBoard exports your codes as a workbook. Change or add rows and load it back, and the list updates.
This is the quick way to bring in phase codes or job codes from your accounting system.
What happens when we retire a cost code?
You turn it off. It stays on record but is no longer offered when people pick a code. ControlBoard will not delete
a code that a job or a need still uses, or one with codes under it, so past costs never lose their code.
