Time and payroll

How does ControlBoard® approve time for payroll?

ControlBoard approves recorded time one person at a time, for a day or the whole pay week, so nothing reaches payroll unchecked. Managers review a submitted week and pass it to accounting; accounting approves it, and the week locks once it goes out with payroll. Mistakes go back with a reason, and a sent week can be reclaimed and corrected with a supplemental batch instead of a manual adjustment. Punches that broke a rule are listed for review, long days and weeks are flagged, and every approval is kept in a history. Approved time goes to payroll as a file or straight to a connected accounting system, with no retyping.

What you can do with it

  • Approve each person's day or pay week
  • Catch long days, long weeks and broken punch rules
  • Send approved time to payroll, and correct a week after it was sent

Common questions

Can a manager review timesheets before accounting approves them?
Yes. In ControlBoard a manager reviews a submitted week and passes it on, and only accounting or an administrator approves it. Each week shows whether it is draft, submitted, reviewed, returned, approved, partly approved or locked, so everyone knows where each person’s hours stand.
What if hours are wrong after payroll has been sent?
Accounting reclaims the person’s week with a reason, fixes the hours and approves it again. ControlBoard then builds a supplemental payroll batch for just the people corrected. The approval history shows who signed what, and marks hours that changed after they were signed.
Does ControlBoard flag overtime and long days?
Yes. You set the limits for a long day and a long week, and ControlBoard tints any day or week over them while you approve. Punches that broke a punch rule are gathered for review too, so problems are caught before the payroll file is made.
